men's initiative

This initiative caters to the growing needs of men in Tuscaloosa County ages 18 and above. Being a male age 18 or older is the only requirement needing to be met as Healing Communities does not discriminate in any form or fashion.
Our primary goals for this initiative include:
--Meeting the needs of men of Tuscaloosa County in an effort to make them more self-reliant and sufficient; boost their morality and integrity; and to provide a social support system to provide encouragement for the everyday challenges of manhood.
--Teaching men how to effectively cope with and dissolve anger and rage in an effort to reduce violence in our communities.
--Informing and connecting men to resources in Tuscaloosa County to help with services including, but not limited to: housing assistance; financial assistance; parenting classes and resources; and counseling services.
--Teaching men how to be better role models for young men and boys ages 5-17. The goal is to bridge the gap between generations by encouraging men to pass the “torch” of high morals, values, standards, integrity, self-esteem and even positive relationships to young men and boys on the path to manhood.
We plan to do this by:
--Planning educational and resourceful forums to provide advice for and assistance with legal concerns, parenting, childrearing, self-reliance and mental health.
--Planning and implementing fun fellowship activities and retreats to promote and build a social support system fostering healthy relationships and positive interactions.
Activities will include, but are not limited to: forums and educational classes on topics such as parenting, divorce and custody concerns; networking events and resource fairs fostering self-reliance and independence from relying totally on government assistance; fun retreats and fellowship engagements; and group counseling sessions.
